I teach English in Turin and I write. Between those two things there is one single question that has guided my work for years: how does the intelligence of the person in front of me actually work?

I do not start from the programme, I start from the learner. From how they listen, how they get bored, how they light up, how much time they need before speaking. A language is learned when it stops being a subject and becomes a way of being in a relationship.

Out of that practice came Freedom Speaks English, my teaching method, and later Solomon J. nel villaggio dei Pepileni: a fairy tale for the children who feel too much, and for the adults who were those children.

Pepilandia, the village of the book, is where I put everything school rarely has time for: intensity, wonder, solitude, the right to ask difficult questions.
